What I Wore | August 2018

Here is a monthly round-up of the outfits I wore and shared on Instagram for August 2018. If you follow @fabeverydayblog on Instagram, these looks are probably familiar to you, but I have included some new photos of them in today's post so you can see the outfits from different angles, and links to shop some of the outfit components.

Look 1: This look was worn while we were vacationing in the Loire Valley in France.  I loved hanging around that chateau in this surprisingly comfortable and affordable ensemble.  The yellow, one-shoulder lace-detail dress is from ASOS, and I paired it with lace-detail Fergalicious by Fergie wedges from DSW.  Click here to shop this look.

Let's Party Gras! New Orleans-Themed Bachelorette or Birthday Party Ideas

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive commission if you make a purchase using the link.

My niece just turned 30, and we had to celebrate!  Since New Orleans is my new Vegas since moving from California to Texas, we figured it would be a great place to celebrate.  Plus, NOLA is the perfect blend of youthful fun and mature sophistication, so what better city to transition from your 20s to your 30s?

With the celebration being in NOLA, the theme was easy: Mardi Gras!  Or as we called it for fun-time purposes, "Party Gras!"  The color scheme was the traditional Mardi Gras color combo of purple, green, and yellow.  Here is what we did!  You'll want to pin these ones for your own New Orleans birthday weekend or bachelorette party, or even a Mardi Gras party.

Guilt-Free Air Fryer Ranch Zucchini Chips Recipe

As you may have noticed, I've been doing a lot of experimenting with recipe development for my air fryer lately (see my Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tots, my Air Fryer Fried Pickles, and check out some other air fryer recipes in this old post of mine on air frying vs. deep frying).

Today I am sharing a recipe for air fryer ranch zucchini chips.  I am a ranch dressing lover, so anything with a ranch flavor is totally my jam (er, my dip?).  These zucchini chips are made with ranch dressing, and cooked in the air fryer for less guilt than traditional frying.

I developed this recipe as part of the Allrecipes Allstars Tastemakers program.  Rate, review, and photograph my recipe for Guilt-Free Air Fryer Ranch Zucchini Chips on Allrecipes here, and see the full recipe along with some of my cooking tips below.

Training like an American Ninja Warrior at Austin's Crux Climbing Center

I was provided passes to Crux in exchange for a review.  The opinions are my own.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

The #FabFam has been trying to prioritize our health and fitness again, and it is easy to be inspired when one of your friends is a physical beast, a real-life American Ninja Warrior.  Andrew Swinghamer (we just call him Swinghamer, because, best name ever), who is competing in the American Ninja Warrior Las Vegas Finals (watch it on NBC this coming Monday, August 27, 2018), is a proud Austinite, Texas Longhorns super-fan, and dedicated to his fitness.  To be a Ninja Warrior, with the super-human control of your body that is required to complete the courses, you have to be.  Therefore, when Crux Climbing Center in Austin invited my family out to try the facility, I couldn't think of anyone better than Swinghamer to teach us the ways during our first climbing experience.

Six mind-blowing facts about peanuts that I learned during the Texas Peanut Producers Board Blogger Tour

I was hosted on this trip, and have been compensated for this post by Texas Peanut Producers Board. The opinions are my own.

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to visit West Texas to learn about peanut farming and production, as well as the multiple benefits of peanuts. While I have always been a fan of peanuts (see some of my favorite peanut recipes below), this trip offered me unparalleled insight into a process that does so much more for the environment and local economy than I could have imagined. My love for peanuts has multiplied as a result, and I hope you can take some of what I learned away from today’s post.

Thank you to Texas Peanut Producers Board for a wonderful and memorable opportunity, and for the local farmers and business owners for taking the time to show this city girl where her peanut recipe ingredients come from!

Golden Hour Family Photo Session with Austin Photographer Jessica Rockowitz Photography

I received a complimentary family photo session from Jessica Rockowitz Photography.  The opinions are my own.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

Believe it or not, we have never done a formal family photo shoot with all four of us.  Shocking, I know!  And since I spend so much time in front of the camera myself or snapping photos of the kids, we forget to take pictures of our whole family together even though much of our life is photographed.  I always notice this when the holidays roll around, since I can rarely find a picture of all of us for our holiday cards.  This year, we decided to change that, and book a professional family photo shoot with Austin's Jessica Rockowitz Photography.  Jessica suggested a shoot during golden hour, and the results were magical!

Jessica specializes in lifestyle and family photography.  As a mother herself, she has a way with kids (more on that below).  She also offers special packages for influencers who are looking to keep a steady stream of professional-quality photos in their feed!  I'm excited to announce that she is offering a family session giveaway to one of my Austin followers!  Follow @fabeverydayblog on Facebook for the giveaway post and details.

Thoroughly enchanting! Disney's Beauty and the Beast at ZACH Theatre should be your next Austin family date night

We received complimentary tickets to this show.  The opinions are my own.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

One of our all-time favorite family date night ideas is going to the theatre.  ZACH Theatre in Austin (celebrating their 85th year - #zach85) is a longtime favorite of ours with their variety of family shows.  Every time we see a play at ZACH the kids are blown-away by the magic of it all.  I can't tell you how much I value this... in a world where kids are surrounded by high-definition media with the latest technology and special effects, it makes me so happy to see how much the art of live theatre can still impress and enthrall them.  ZACH's latest headlining production, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, was even more than that.  To use a theme from the show itself, we were absolutely enchanted.  The cast, crew, orchestra, and production had us all spellbound from the first "bonjour," and even now, days later.

Lighter Air Fryer Fried Pickles with Sriracha Mayo Recipe

I've been experimenting with recipe development for my air fryer over the last few weeks.  See last week's recipe for Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tots, check out some other air fryer recipes in this old post of mine on air frying vs. deep frying, and stay tuned for more new recipes for the air fryer in the coming weeks.

Today I am sharing a recipe for air fryer fried pickles (along with a spicy Sriracha mayo dipping sauce).  These are a much lighter alternative to regular fried pickles, but still turned out crispy and delicious!  I developed this recipe as part of the Allrecipes Allstars Tastemakers program.  Rate, review, and photograph my recipe for Air Fryer Fried Pickles on Allrecipes here, and see the full recipe along with some of my cooking tips below.

Reasons to Find Yourself in Rockport - Fulton, TX, 'The Charm of the Texas Coast'

I was hosted by Rockport-Fulton and some of the local businesses in this post.  The opinions are my own based on my own experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

The #FabFam has been exploring the special destinations and getaways in our own state this summer.  We've been referring to it as our "summer of Texas fun."  Our latest adventure was to a beautiful part of the Texas coast that we'd not yet visited: Rockport-Fulton.  Our few days in Rockport were truly a highlight of our summer - it was relaxing, peaceful, and FUN for the entire family.  There is quite a bit to do and explore in this area, as you can see yourself on the Rockport-Fulton website.  Today, I am sharing our recommendations based on the amazing itinerary laid out for us by our host, the Rockport-Fulton Chamber.  Keep reading to see where to stay, what to do, and (always important) where to eat during a getaway to Rockport-Fulton, "The Charm of the Texas Coast."

Rockport-Fulton invited us to experience the area to see firsthand how much the region has recovered from last year's devastating hurricane season.  This part of the coast was hit especially hard when Harvey made landfall.  Over the last year the townspeople, along with support from all over our state (#TexasStrong), have been rebuilding.  They want to let vacationers know that #RockportIsBack and ready for tourism!  Beaches, activities, restaurants, and accommodations are open for business, and through good ol' Texan resilience, better than ever.  Take that, Harvey!

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tots Recipe - A Tasty, Lighter Cooking Alternative

I love experimenting with my air fryer, and have been developing several new air fryer recipes over the last few weeks.  Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks, and check out some other air fryer recipes in this old post of mine on air frying vs. deep frying.

The recipe I am sharing today is for air fryer sweet potato tater tots.  These are a lighter alternative to regular tater tots, but are still delicious!  Mine also have a little bit of a kick due to adding Cajun seasoning.  I developed this recipe as part of the Allrecipes Allstars pilot Tastemakers program.  Rate, review, and photograph my recipe for Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tots on Allrecipes here, and see the full recipe along with some of my cooking tips below.
