Two days in Stockholm, Sweden in winter (with the kids!)

The #FabFam recently went to Scandinavia (Sweden and Finland) for spring break.  I know... people usually go somewhere warm for spring break.  But not us - we decided to travel to the arctic!  In the coming weeks I will share more about our time there (I'll have posts on our time at the Icehotel in Sweden's Arctic Circle and our day in Helsinki, Finland).  Today I am sharing about our brief visit to Stockholm, Sweden.

Our time in Stockholm was actually centered around discovering some of our family history (like our trip to Spain in 2010 and last summer's road trip in England and Scotland).  I'll share about that, as well as general tips and recommendations for a quick two-day trip to Stockholm with kids.

Fall/Winter 2018 Trends to Watch According to the Designers at Austin Fashion Week 2018

I got to attend my first Austin Fashion Week this year!  This year's show, brought to you by Fashion X with presenting sponsor Roger Beasley Mazda, was a great one to attend, as it marked the 10th anniversary of Austin Fashion Week/Fashion X Austin.

If you follow @fabeverydayblog on social media, then you know I was on a quest to wear all local Texas designers to the show.  Stay tuned for more on that soon.  Today, I am sharing more about the Fashion X Austin experience (so you know what to expect when you attend next year), and the key trends to look out for this Fall/Winter 2018 according to what the designers presented on the Austin Fashion Week runway.

A doctor's visit from the comfort of my couch? Yes, please! My review of Amwell telehealth (plus a 25% discount code)

Compensation was provided by Amwell via Momtrends. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and are not indicative of the opinions of Amwell or Momtrends.

Doesn’t it seem like it’s always a weekend, or you are about to go out of town when your child has a new suspicious rash, a low-grade fever, or other mysterious symptoms?  For me, it ALWAYS seems to be the case!  It’s not convenient for these things to pop-up outside of your primary care doctor’s normal business hours, and ain’t nobody got time for the urgent care clinic for small medical questions.

Thankfully, we live in a day and age where technology comes to the rescue!  No, I’m not talking about consulting Dr. Google (we all know the fear and uncertainty Googling your symptoms brings).  I’m talking about telehealth – the new-fangled ability we have to meet with a live doctor on video from our laptop or mobile device via the internet.

Today, I am sharing my recent experience with Amwell, the largest telehealth network in the country. If you try Amwell for yourself, Fab Everyday readers get a 25% discount on urgent care services with code MOM27!  Please note that this code is good through 12/31/18.

Oros, the new messaging and Q&A app, is HERE! Download it for free today!

I have been compensated for this post by Oros. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This is not a drill! The new Oros messaging app is HERE! Download Oros for iOS or Android free here: http://bit.ly/fab-everyday.

You can read my review of the Oros app here (I have been fortunate to be in the beta test group), but I love it because it combines a few things in one easy-to-navigate app. Oros is not only a text app (that connects you with your own contacts), it’s also a question/answer and recommendations app (that connects you with anyone in the world). Anyone can try Oros now, but this week’s launch is focused on the Austin, Texas area while your network of local experts grows.

Easy last-minute Easter food: Chocolate Pretzel Birds Nests recipe

Chocolate Pretzel Bird Nests - Easy Easter Food

Just when I thought I wasn't going to take on any new DIY Easter craft ideas, I get the itch.  With Easter being less than a week away, I wasn't sure what kind of Easter-themed craft or treat I could pull together at the last minute.  But then I had the idea for a really easy Easter dessert that I could involve the kids in making: Chocolate Pretzel Bird Nests.  And guess what?  They only have three ingredients!  That's just my kind of recipe.

Your next celebration should be with Red Lobster for Lobsterfest!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. The following content is intended for readers who are 21 or older. #LobsterfestCelebration #Lobsterfest

Lobsterfest is back!  A celebration of lobster is the perfect way for a pair of foodies like the hubs and me to have a night of celebration ourselves.  Last week, we decided to have a date night and raise a glass to toast a big work deal the hubs closed.  Since Red Lobster is having Lobsterfest (the largest variety of lobster dishes they offer all year), we felt this was the perfect way to treat ourselves.

Why you need to have Oros, the new messaging and Q&A app on your radar

I have been compensated for this post by Oros. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I am so excited to tell you about a new app I have had the privilege to preview. It’s called Oros, and the reason I love it is that it combines a few things that would have previously required me to do separate web or app searches. Oros is not only a text app (that connects you with your own contacts), it's also a question/answer and recommendations app (that connects you with anyone in the world). Oros launches on April 3, 2018 in Austin (and will be expanding to other cities soon after).

I find that real recommendations from real people are more important than ever when I am planning for trips or outings. Oros easily connects me not only with my group of friends and family, but also with locals and experts when I need a tip or recommendation! This app is going to quickly become my go-to for both local and travel recommendations, and also for planning things with my friends and family.

Sheet Pan Pancakes recipe - The breakfast shortcut every busy parent needs to know

Sheet Pan Pancakes recipe - The breakfast shortcut every busy parent needs to know

You guys.  GUYS.  I just discovered the ultimate breakfast hack for busy mornings.  I can't believe I hadn't figured this one out sooner; but alas, now that I have this life-altering trick, I HAD to share it with you (along with a recipe, of course).

Does your family love pancakes?  Do you hate getting out and cleaning your griddle?  Do you ever find yourself too busy to sweat over a stove or griddle for a long period of time?  Do you ever need to serve up a big breakfast quickly?  I know I can answer "yes" to all of these questions.  If you can answer "yes" to any of them too, then this breakfast shortcut is right up your alley.

What is this glorious trick?  Sheet pan pancakes.  AKA pancakes you can make in bulk, mostly hands-off, and without a griddle.  Keep reading for the method, along with my recipe at the end of the post.

The breakfast shortcut every busy parent needs to know: sheet pan pancakes

One of my good girlfriends enlightened our group of friends with this trick about a month ago, and it has changed EVERYTHING.  Not just for a busy weekend morning, but for meal planning as well (since sheet pan pancakes make so many, you can pull out a few throughout the week without any fuss or mess).

Behind the wheel of some of Kia's most luxurious rides at the DFW Auto Show

I have been given compensation for this post by Kia Motors. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Those of you following me know the whole premise behind Fab Everyday is how to have more fabulousness in the everyday.  It's balancing real life with style and accessible luxury.

Now that I'm in the market for a new car myself, this balance naturally extends to my choice in a new vehicle.  Function and style are of equal importance to me.  A car is such a piece of one's identity, that I need to feel good about what I drive, inside and out.  But it still needs to work in my lifestyle as a busy working mom with an active family.  Last week I got to attend the DFW Auto Show with Kia Motors to get behind the wheel of some of their vehicles.  To me, this was an opportunity to get a closer experience of their more luxurious models, and get a feel for how they'd work in my everyday life.  I'm excited to share what I learned in the process!

Have him slip into something more comfortable this Valentine's Day

Disclosure: I received this product for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

Warning: potentially-embarrassing and possibly-TMI topic ahead!  Valentine's Day is almost here, and us girls are being hit with lingerie sale ads from every direction.  While I personally like getting myself a little something that makes me feel sexy (not just for my man, but for myself), a question has recently occurred to me: why is it just on the woman in the relationship to don something sexy for her partner on V-Day?  I say let's ask him to slip into something more comfortable for our enjoyment and objectification!

Ladies and gentlemen, let's get real for a moment.  Not only do our male partners have a preference for their underwear (is your man a tighty-whitey guy?  A boxer Joe?  An efficient boxer brief dude?  Or does he go commando?), but we do, too.  Fortunately my hubby and I are on the same page.  He is a boxer brief guy, and I have to admit that I think he looks great (wink wink) in them.

The Ultimate UK Road Trip Itinerary - Driving Around England, Scotland, and Wales with the Family

Last summer the #FabFam had a journey to seek some family and personal history in the U.K.  This could only be accomplished by taking a two-week road trip around the UK.  We began in London, spent the weekend in the countryside in Devon with some good friends, drove through Wales to seek dragons and castles, spent a few days in Liverpool and Manchester, explored the Scottish Highlands (including searching for the mysterious Loch Ness Monster), spent one family-friendly day in Edinburgh, and then came back down the eastern coast to loop back towards London.

Thank you for following along with our journey.  Today I am sharing the itinerary for a U.K. road trip, including recommendations on where to stay during a UK road trip, the top cities to see when traveling to England, Scotland, and Wales, what we found to be the best places to eat during a road trip through the UK, as well as reviews, recommendations, and tips for the best activities for kids during a family road trip from England to Wales and Scotland.

Day 1: Arrive in London
Begin: London, England
End: London, England

Keeping your relationship and date night outfits fresh: 7 tips for dating your spouse

This post was developed in collaboration with Downy.  The thoughts are my own based on my experience using the product.

Adulting is busy, especially when you’ve got kids.  No matter how much we love each other, my husband and I find that when spending so much energy on our busy day-to-day life, that it is easy to forget to work on our relationship.  One way we work on maintaining that connection is with regular date nights.  Just because we’re married doesn’t mean we don’t need the romance and connection that we had when we were first dating, so we swear by the importance of ‘dating your spouse.’  And when I’m pulling it together for a big date, I want to look and feel (and, ahem, smell) my best.

Travel Tuesday: Family-Friendly Edinburgh

I have been sharing about our journey to seek some family and personal history in the U.K. We began in London, spent the weekend in the countryside in Devon, drove through Wales, spent a few days in Liverpool and Manchester, and explored the Scottish Highlands (including searching for Nessie at Loch Ness). Today, I am sharing the next chapter, about our brief time in Edinburgh. Since we had our 5- and 8-year-old sons with us, and since we found Edinburgh to be so family-friendly, today's post focuses specifically on what we did with the kids during our short trip there. In the next few weeks I will share the full itinerary and final details and recommendations from our U.K. road trip, so stay tuned!

Pineapple Turmeric Cleanser featuring Stevia In The Raw®

The opinions expressed in this post are my own and do not reflect the opinions of the makers of In The Raw® sweeteners.

Car buffs and those in the market unite at the south's biggest car show - the Houston Auto Show - Jan. 24-28

(Photo source: A Girls Guide to Cars)

Disclosure: This post is part of a program sponsored by A Girls Guide to Cars, the Houston Auto Show, and Toyota.

I am officially in market (no, not on the market)... for a car.  I just paid-off my last vehicle, and am ready for something new, fun to drive, stylish (of course), and high-tech.  When presented with the opportunity to cover the Houston Auto Show with A Girls Guide to Cars later this month, the timing was perfect!  Not only will I get to see over 800 of the newest model year vehicles (in addition to concept cars, classics, and extreme sport vehicles), but I will also get to test drive many of them with the event's Ride and Drive program.  This is the only show of this scale in our area, so I hope you can join me at Houston's fabulous NRG Center, either by purchasing a ticket, or by winning a pair through the giveaway!!  Keep reading for details on both.

Discovering the Beauty of Scotland's Highlands

I have been sharing about our journey to seek some family and personal history in the U.K., but took a bit of a break since my last post (hunting for the Loch Ness Monster).  Part of the reason for the break (in addition to the usual busy-ness of the holiday season) is because I wasn't quite ready to put into words this next chapter, which is on the Scottish Highlands.  When a place sticks with me, and is so unique and beautiful, I find that I need time to process it before I can write about it.  Today, I am finally ready to share more about our experience there, including recommendations.  In the coming weeks I will continue detailing recommendations from our U.K. road trip, which includes even more of Scotland and England, so continue to stay tuned!

So, the funny thing about this trip is that I have recently become OBSESSED with the book series and show Outlander.  Fortunately for my husband and kids, that obsession started after we got back from the trip, therefore I didn't drag them to all the filming locations, nor did I make the hubs call me "Sassenach" the whole time.  That being said, I think it's helped me appreciate Outlander in a different way, as I had sort of created my own relationship with, and memories of, Scotland beforehand.

To start, the Highlands of Scotland will take your breath away.  As you can see in the image above (snapped on my iPhone from the car window as we drove), the mountains and hills, the mist, and the green of it all just feel magical.

6 Accessories that Complement Any Outfit

I have worked in collaboration with one of our partners to provide you with the below post.

Completing an outfit can be a major challenge for anyone. From watches to ties, socks to sunglasses, finding that perfect accessory can be a pain. It’s especially challenging as a man to accent that crisp new suit or weekend casual wear. Finding those universal accessories to go with any outfit can save you a world of worry and outfit anxiety, so read on to learn your best grabs.

Socks
Obviously, socks aren’t the first thing you think of when someone says men’s fashion accessories, but they can make a subtle yet powerful statement with any outfit. Don’t even bother with boring navy blue or black socks. Wear socks that are flashy yet tasteful. Aim for unique patterns and designs full of rich and royal colors. Color is everything. Unique and eccentric colors are great, but you’re not a peacock. Avoid those neon pinks and yellows; you’re trying to command a boardroom, not win a beauty pageant.

How to cook delicious low-carb, vegan food without smelling like it (plus a recipe for Vegan Coconut Curry with Cauliflower Rice)

This post was developed in collaboration with Downy.  The thoughts are my own based on my experience using the product.

Sometimes my favorite hobbies don’t go well together.  As you know I love cooking and I love my personal style – and I never want to have to choose one over the other. But recently I’ve been trying to cook more healthily, and experimenting with low-carb and meatless options like a curry or vegetable rice – but the big problem is that all that spice can REALLY smell. It turns my entire home into a curry scented explosion. And when I walk out of the house, I can smell my cooking on my clothes ALL DAY.

UGH - I want to fix a fabulous and healthy meal for my family, but I don’t want to change my clothes (or even shower!) after cooking. I want to not only look fabulous, but smell fabulous, too. What’s a girl to do?

Well, now I don’t have to choose between cooking and rocking my cute outfits.  How?  My chef’s secret is Downy Protect & Refresh liquid fabric conditioner. It gives my clothes all-day odor protection—like deodorant for your clothes! Now my #OOTD stays smelling fresh from mealtime to family time. I just pour it into the dispenser right after my detergent, then set it and forget it.  WIN-WIN!
