OMG! An Emoji-Themed Kid's Birthday Party

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive commission if you make a purchase using the link.

My oldest just turned 8!  I can't believe this is the 8th birthday party we've done for him, and am acutely aware that he may not want me to throw him a themed birthday party much longer.  But for now, while he still embraces it, I'm going to continue embracing it in all the Pinterest-scouring glory.  The theme G chose this year was especially fun: emoji!  Save yourself the Pinterest scouring, and get all my recommendations for throwing a fab kid's emoji-themed birthday party.

Dark Chocolate Caramel Corn Fudge Recipe - A 3-Ingredient Alternative to Christmas Cookies

Disclosure: I received Eagle Brand products for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

I don't know about you, but I am getting a little cookied-out.  This time of year is all about cookies - cookie exchanges, cookies for Santa, baking mass amounts of cookies for friends and neighbors; you get me.  Now, I love cookies, but we need to mix it up once in a while.

If you still have holiday desserts to make or exchange, let me offer you an easy and amazing way to mix it up with this three-ingredient fudge recipe!  Yes, you heard that right.  Three ingredients!

Quick and delicious? Yes, please! My review of Sandwich Bros. Sandwiches

This is a sponsored post with Sandwich Bros. and BraVoMark.  All opinions are mine.

I have found a new snack that my whole family loves: Sandwich Bros. Sandwiches.   These frozen flatbread pocket sandwiches are really tasty.  Deceptively tasty, in fact, given that they are frozen, but it wasn’t much of a surprise after all when I learned that they are made with real meat and Wisconsin cheese.  We tried the Chicken Melts, though they also carry Angus beef cheeseburgers, gyro sliders, breakfast sandwiches, and more.  I found them in the freezer section of my local Walgreens, but you can also find them at Kroger, Costco, and other retailers nationwide (click here to locate where Sandwich Bros. is sold near you).  Read on for my full review, then click here for a printable coupon when you are ready to try them for yourself!  I am also giving away coupons for two free 4-packs of Sandwich Bros. Sandwiches this week!  See details on the giveaway at the end of this post.

Family Recipe: Coquito (Puerto Rican Eggnog)

As a Puerto Rican, it officially feels like the holiday season when you make your first batch of coquito.  Coquito is Puerto Rico's version of eggnog, using rum (Puerto Rican rum, naturally) and coconut milk.  Today I am sharing my family's recipe for coquito (Puerto Rican eggnog), as taught to me by my father.

Coquito is a delicious blend of the spices you love and savor this time of year (cinnamon and nutmeg) with a Caribbean spin.

Fab Everyday 2017 Holiday Gift Guide

Disclosure: I received some of these items as free samples for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

There are people on my list that I struggle with gift ideas for each year.  I like to find things that are useful (but still fun - something they might not get for themselves), cost-effective, and unique (not the same old sale item that everyone else found on Black Friday or Cyber Monday).  For those of you who go through the same struggles, I have rounded up some unique and cost-effective gift ideas for a variety of your friends and loved ones.  I hope you enjoy the Fab Everyday gift guide!

Personalized gold foil holiday cards from The Stationery Studio

Disclosure: I received these cards for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

Is it just me, or is anyone else shocked that it's almost December?  Where. In. The. Heck. Did this year go?  Not to mention that before the Thanksgiving leftovers are even cold, stores are blaring the Christmas music!  I am so not ready!

Fortunately, I have one thing ready.  My holiday cards just arrived!  We are saving ourselves time this year with personalized cards (which will also save our hands from signing our names on every single one).  Now to find the time to address and send them...

We chose a beautiful personalized card from The Stationery Studio.  They sell all sorts of personalized items (I really love their hostess gift section!), and naturally have a huge selection of holiday cards with several different layout options for photos and personalization.  I was immediately attracted to their cards stamped with real gold foil!  We chose a navy plaid pattern card with a gold foil border.

What to Wear - Where this Holiday Season

I can't believe how fast this year has flown by!  Here we are, the week of Thanksgiving.  Which means it's time for my annual What to Wear - Where outfit inspiration post for the holidays!  Not only will this give you a snapshot of some of the key fall/winter 2017 trends, but you can also shop the outfits in this post directly in the carousel at the very end of this post.

Thanksgiving
A burgundy one-shoulder top is elegant enough for a nice dinner, but can be paired with jeans and booties for a more casual look.  The waist tie on this top from Express adds a feminine FW17 touch that's still easy to move in.

A Romantic Weekend in Carmel by the Sea, California

This trip was hosted by Hofsas House Hotel.  The opinions expressed are my own.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

I have always been a proponent of parents taking some time away from the kids as a couple periodically.  It helps you connect as a couple, explore places without the constraints of bedtimes or age limitations, and (maybe best of all), get some uninterrupted sleep.  Don't get me wrong; we love travelling with our kids and showing them the world.  But I also love (and really value and cherish) trips with just my husband.  Since our last big trip this year (our two-week U.K. road trip) included the kids, the hubs and I were due for some one-on-one travel time.  We decided to go back to my home state of California for a weekend of wine, peace and quiet, and rest!

I was offered the opportunity to experience Carmel-by-the-Sea, California courtesy of Hofsas House Hotel and some of their local partners.  This was just what the doctor ordered - the perfect romantic setting for a quick and rejuvenating getaway.  While Carmel-by-the-Sea would be great for families as well, my reviews here are specific to what we experienced during an adult weekend.  I hope that this will inspire you with where to stay, where to eat, and what to do on your own getaway to Carmel and Monterey, which also happens to be the gateway to my favorite part of California (and possibly the whole US), Big Sur.

How to Choose the Right Fix and Flip Property

I have worked in collaboration with one of our partners to provide you with the below post.

If flipping houses were easy, everyone would be doing it. You can be the queen of Pinterest and have a knack for design, or consider yourself a handyman (or handywoman!) that can handle all home repairs, but these skills aren’t enough when it comes to successfully flipping a property. In the end, what matters most is carefully choosing the property to get the most out of your investment. Read through these steps to ensure you pick the right place before setting out on a fix and flip.

Reviewing Taco Cabana's New Flame-Grilled Chicken Tacos and the New Premium Lunazul Tequila Margarita

Disclosure: I received samples for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

Taco Cabana invited me to be part of its blogger tasting program to let you know about some of their new menu items (I know, it's a rough gig, but these are the things I do for you, my dear readers).  Being ever the foodie and budget-seeker, I was not one to pass up the opportunity to try these with my family, since we already love "Taco C" (as the Fab Fam affectionately calls it) for both the quality and the great prices.

In early October, Taco Cabana debuted three new tacos, a new house-made margarita, and a new Crispy Chicken Bites kid's meal.  Here is what we thought of each!

Family Travel Bucket List: Hunting for the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland

Even having grown up in America, I heard about the legends of the Loch Ness Monster since I was a young child. This mysterious, mythical creature was synonymous with Scotland in my mind. When we found ourselves planning our time in Scotland as part of our U.K. road trip, visiting Loch Ness was a requirement for the trip. Not only did I want to see the famed loch for myself, but I was also so excited at the idea of my two young sons getting to experience it. This way, as they hear about the Loch Ness Monster in school or from friends, they will have a real memory to associate it with.

Porcupine meatballs were one of my favorite meals that my mother made when I was growing up.  Thankfully my own family loves this one too!  Today I am sharing my version of porcupine meatballs, which is adapted from the one my mother makes (our sauces are different).

A bewitching Halloween party costume (with AMI Clubwear)

Disclosure: I received this costume from AMI Clubwear for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

My friend had a witch-themed Halloween party, and I chose this Sexy Long Sleeve Pagan Witch costume for the occasion.  I got the costume from AMI Clubwear, an online fashion retailer for reasonably-priced sexy women's clothes (think going out clothes, costumes, swimwear, lingerie, etc.).  There was a huge selection of costumes (including several different types of witches), but I thought this would be a unique take on the party theme.  Plus, I couldn't resist the Celtic braiding pattern and these dramatic bell sleeves!

What I Learned My First Time Making Authentic English Scones

After writing about our time in Devon, England, I became inspired to try my hand at baking scones.  I have never attempted this before, and was a little nervous (especially since I had some pretty dang amazing scones to compare it to from England).

As it turns out, the place where I had the best scone of my life (Watersmeet House) actually published their recipe online.  Here is my experience, including what I learned for the next time I attempt scones.  I hope that this will help you too if you are a scone-baking newbie like myself.

One-Day Road Trip Through Wales - Seeking Ancient Ruins, Dragons, and Castles

I  have been sharing about our journey to seek some family and personal history in the U.K. (see these fabulous things to do with kids in London, and read about our idyllic weekend in the countryside in Devon).  Over the coming weeks I will continue detailing recommendations from our trip, but today we are focused on our one-day drive exploring Wales!

I hadn't been to Wales since I was a baby, and had no memory of it, so this part of our trip was totally new to all of us.  We only had a day to get from our hotel in south Wales to our next hotel in Liverpool, so we tried to pack in as much history, scenery, and family fun as we could.  Our goals as a family were to see a castle (my idea), hunt for dragons (Grayson's idea), and see a lighthouse (Sawyer's idea) in the mythical land of King Arthur, Merlin, and fire-breathing dragons.

After driving up from Devon, we spent the night in Newport (not too far from the Welsh border and Cardiff) at the Hampton by Hilton Newport/East.  We love Hampton Inns in the US, and Hampton by Hiltons in the UK have the same good, clean quality and complimentary breakfasts that we expect from Hampton Inns.  After a good night's sleep, this is where our Welsh road trip began the next day.

Family Harry Potter Halloween Costumes

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links and make a purchase, I may receive a commission.  This does not cost you anything additional, and helps me to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!

Halloween is quite possibly my favorite holiday.  The #FabFam has fun choosing a family costume each year (and I'll do this until my kids think they are too cool for it... and maybe even push for it then).  Some of our costumes from the past few years include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The LEGO Movie, Despicable Me / Minions, and Avengers

This year, we chose characters from Harry Potter!  Grayson is Harry, Sawyer is Voldemort (of course he is), Nik is Ron Weasley, and I am Hermione Granger.  Nik and I debated between a few other pairs as well, with Severus Snape and Lily Potter being another top choice.  Ultimately, we thought we'd fit the family costume better with Ron and Hermione.

A Weekend in Devon, England

After departing London during our family’s recent U.K. road trip, we drove to the southwest of England (via Stonehenge – but more on that later) to spend the weekend in Devon. Why Devon? Well, while we wanted to see as much of the country as we could during our road trip, Devon in particular has a special connection for us, and there’s a bit of a story behind what brought us there.

Our good friend, Katie (who we met along with her husband Ben during our Mediterranean voyage a few years ago) grew up in Devon, and her parents still live there. On many occasions we heard Katie talking about how beautiful and peaceful it is in Devon, and how she, as a big city Londoner, will always be a country girl at heart because of her time there. We missed an opportunity to visit Devon for her and Ben’s wedding a few years ago (we would have been there in a heartbeat, except it conflicted with our Kenyan safari). When we visited Katie and Ben in London last fall (or is it “autumn?”), we talked of Devon, and how wonderful a place it was for Katie and her siblings to grow up. We made loose plans that one day we would bring our kids to England with us, and that we would visit Devon with Katie and Ben. A few months later, those loose plans became real plans, and the #FabFam had a tripped booked to the U.K., and a weekend planned for Devon for the summer!

Bourbon-Spiked Pumpkin Pecan Bundt Cake recipe featuring Stevia In The Raw® Bakers Bag

The product, information, and gift card have been provided by In The Raw® so that I could try the product and share my thoughts and information about Stevia In The Raw® Bakers Bag. The opinions expressed in this post are my own and do not reflect the opinions of In The Raw®.

While I love the spring and summer, there is just something about fall.  I find myself especially inspired to bake in the fall.  And since I'm one of those that loves #pumpkineverything, I find that I want to make all sorts of pumpkin-y treats.  This led me to try a new recipe this past weekend, which I am sharing below.  Three words to describe this decadence: Bourbon.  Pumpkin.  Caramel.
