How to Style 2017's Spring/Summer Dresses

Disclosure: I received some of the products in this post for review purposes.  The opinions are my own.

Spring is in the air!  To me, that means it's time to start breaking out the dresses!  I love that dresses can be worn for seemingly every occasion, whether it's for work, vacation, brunch, shopping, a wedding, you name it!  Today I am showing you how to style a few of this spring and summer's hottest dress trends for different occasions.

Look 1: Your Casual, Everyday Dress.
As I shared in my spring fashion must-haves post, off-the-shoulder and bell-sleeves are uber hot for spring and summer this year.  This Tobi Peace of Mind Striped Off Shoulder Shift Dress is the perfect combo of both those things, in a breezy silhouette and nautical stripes.  This is great for a spring break trip or a day of shopping.  I paired it with one of the hottest shoe styles of the season, a block-heel mule.  These mules are JustFab's Bijou in Cognac.  If you're not a member of JustFab yet, click here to join to get the VIP pricing on these shoes (disclosure: this is an affiliate link, which means I receive commission from JustFab if you sign-up using the link)!  The icing on the cake are my current favorite sunnies, Karen Walker 'Simone' Retro Sunglasses (affiliate link).

Recipe: Bacon White Cheddar Pesto Mac and Cheese - Developed for Barilla and Allrecipes.com

Another one of my original recipes developed as an Allrecipes Allstars ambassador has been "kitchen approved" and published on the Allrecipes.com site!  If you are an Allrecipes member, click here to follow @fabeverydayblog on Allrecipes to see my photos, reviews, and activity on the site for your meal planning inspiration.  You can also sign up for the Weekly Fab email newsletter to get a weekly digest of the recipes I cook each week.

This recipe was another partnership with Barilla to develop a new recipe using one of their Blue Box pastas and a sauce.  Again, like with my Red Hot Chipotle Bacon Mac and Cheese, I was inspired to use a Fab Fam favorite (bacon) as a key ingredient.  I developed a Bacon White Cheddar Pesto Mac and Cheese, a rich and bacon-y variation of the tradition macaroni and cheese pasta dish.

Legit New York-Style Pizza in Austin, Texas: 3 Train Pizzeria

Disclosure: I received a complimentary meal at 3 Train Pizzeria for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

The Fab Fam recently had a night out at northwest Austin's 3 Train Pizzeria (8127 Mesa Drive, Suite B-202, Austin, TX 78746).  We all love pizza, so we were looking forward to trying this place for the first time.  I was also eager to check it out for comparison purposes, as it is described as a New York-style pizzeria, and I am always looking to find pizza places that remind me of the way pizza tastes in NYC.  Another thing that appealed to us about 3 Train was that it seemed family-friendly.  They have board games for the kids to play, and even have family night on Tuesdays where kids eat FREE!

Well folks, we were not disappointed!  Quite the opposite, in fact.  Read on for more details about our experience at 3 Train.

Recipe: Red Hot Chipotle Bacon Mac and Cheese - Developed for Barilla and Allrecipes.com

As you may recall, I recently became an Allrecipes.com ambassador (the ambassadors are referred to as Allrecipes Allstars).  One of the great parts of being an Allstar is the opportunity to partner with brands to develop new recipes using their products.  Well folks, I've had another original recipe developed for the Allstar program become "kitchen approved" and published on the Allrecipes.com site!

This was a partnership with Barilla to develop a new recipe using one of their Blue Box pastas and a sauce.  Since the entire Fab Fam loves bacon, I was inspired to start there as a key ingredient.  The recipe I developed is Red Hot Chipotle Bacon Mac and Cheese, a next-level macaroni and cheese with a red sauce (different, I know!), smoky chipotle spice, and bacon.

Travel Tuesday: One Day in Zion National Park

For spring break this year, the Fab Fam took a camping road trip across the Southwest (from Austin to Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas, Page, Arizona for Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and Zion and Arches National Parks in Utah).  I'll share our overall road trip route, itinerary, and recommendations in a few weeks, but leading up to that I am highlighting each of our destinations in detail.  Today's post covers our short, but memorable time in Zion National Park in southern Utah.

In our jam-packed road trip week, we found ourselves so close to Zion that we had to try and squeeze it in.  We only had time for one day in the park, but it's a place I have always wanted to go, and I couldn't resist at least touching the surface.  I do have to admit that one day was not enough time.  We didn't get to see as much as we would have liked.  If I could do it again, I would have tried to book early enough to stay in the park (camping sites and accommodations book well in advance).  That being said, we don't regret our time there.  Zion was so beautiful to behold that it was almost surreal.  Everything was so large in scale, so majestic, that the photos don't do it justice.  So if you find yourself in a similar situation with limited time, here is our advice on seeing a few things and getting around with young kids.

Friday Faves: ESPEROS Handbags - High-Quality Style with a Mission

Disclosure: I received two handbags from ESPEROS for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

My latest bag obsession: ESPEROS.  If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen me styling two different bags a lot recently, especially during our recent road trip through the Southwest.  Today I am pleased to share a lot more images of these bags as styled on our road trip.

I love these bags for a few reasons.  First, they are really cute.  Second, they are really well-made, and of a high-quality, buttery soft leather.  Third, they were both really versatile and functional, even during our hikes and more rugged days in the state and national parks.  Finally, ESPEROS is special because they also have a mission.  With every product sold, ESPEROS funds one year of education for children in developing countries.  How can you not love that?  It's not often that we find ourselves both giving back and shopping for luxury goods at the same time.  Click here to learn more about them and shop their different handbag and backpack styles for both men and women.

The first style, and the one I am #currentlyobsessed with, is the ESPEROS Bucket Bag.  This bag comes in five different colors.  The one I have is Pearl.  Made of soft, durable leather, this bag is also perfect for spring and summer boho lux styles.

Travel Tuesday: Visiting Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend in Page, AZ

For spring break this year, the Fab Fam took a camping road trip across the Southwest (from Austin to Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas, Page, Arizona, and Zion and Arches National Parks in Utah).  I'll share our overall road trip route, itinerary, and recommendations in a few weeks, but leading up to that I am highlighting each of our destinations in detail.  Today's post covers our time in Page, AZ, where we camped and visited Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend.

So, you know those rainbow-striped slot canyon photos you see as a computer lock screen image, or in those fantasy travel posts in your Facebook feed?  What about that magical looking shot of the Colorado river in a deep red canyon on your TV screensaver?  Well, both of these unbelievably beautiful, no-filter-needed spots are just minutes from the small town of Page, Arizona.  And yes, they really look that magical in real life.

Travel Tuesday: St. Paddy's Day in Savannah, Georgia

Happy St. Patrick's Day from the Fab Fam!

We love Savannah.  It is such a cool city, and is also the home of one of our favorite families: Sarah, Lenny, and their adorable boys.  We decided to visit them during our Southern US road trip last spring break, which just so happened to be around St. Paddy's Day.  St. Patrick's Day is a big deal in Savannah - in fact, they have one of the biggest St. Patrick's Day parades in the US!   Today I am sharing about our experience in Savannah for St. Patrick's Day specifically.  For more recommendations for visiting Savannah, check out these posts:

Our boys were especially excited about St. Paddy's Day this year, because they were going to be in the famous Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade with our friends and their family!  Bonus - they were reunited with one of their little buddies from LA (before we moved to Texas and they moved to Georgia)!

These little hams!

Product Review: The Award-Winning Trudeau Reinforced Silicone Round Cake Mold

Disclosure: I received this product for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

While I cook pretty much daily, I don't bake or make desserts that often.  When I do make desserts, I rarely make cakes, as the whole process is honestly a bit intimidating to me.  I get easily stressed out about maintaining their shape and decorating them in a way I can be happy with.  Though lately I have been thinking about giving it another chance and facing my fear of cake-making.

It felt fortuitous when I heard about a cake pan from Trudeau that had won an award at the
2017 Housewares Design Awards (honoring products offering design innovation and new ways for improving everyday living) and was offered the chance to review this cake pan myself.  Anything that could take some of the possibility for error out of the cake-making process was enough for me to give it a try.  I made my first cake using this pan this past weekend, and today I am sharing my full review.  Thanks to Trudeau and C.I. Visions for the opportunity to review this product!

I received the Trudeau 9" Structure Round Cake Mold, which has an integrated steel frame.  The main part of its form is made from silicone, which is non-stick and allows for easy removal from the pan.  It is also safe for the freezer and microwave, which was surprising given that the pan is still rigid around the top (which allows the mold to hold its shape).

Spring Fashion Trend: Graphic Tees (Featuring Women's Graphic Tees from Merch Nerds)

Disclosure: I received a graphic tee from Merch Nerds for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

As you saw in my Spring Fashion Must-Haves video, graphic tees are making a huge comeback, and are key pieces to add to your spring wardrobe.  I recently got the chance to try out a women's graphic tee from Merch Nerds, and immediately loved the selection and pricing for both men's and women's graphic tees on their online store.  When I received my tee, I found it to be true-to size, well-fitting for a women's tee, and a great quality.

My Merch Nerds graphic tee styled with some distressed denim shorts, a plaid convertible-sleeve button-up shirt for layering, and some open-toe shoeties.

Graphic tees are more versatile than you might think.  They are great for vacation attire (I love them on road trips), outdoor activities, concerts, and just running around town.  Graphic tees can be styled with shorts or jeans and layers like plaid or chambray tops for a more casual or boho look.  You can also mix them with blazers or skirts to create an edgier day-to-night outfit.  The shirt I chose was from Merch Nerds' Travel and Location themed collection.  They have all sorts of fun ones in this category, for both guys and girls.  As they are a California-based company, I found a few really cute Cali-themed shirts to choose from, but ultimately chose this simple Women's Retro Cali Tee in blue (the shirt, like most of the ones on Merch Nerds, comes in a few color options).  Oh, and the price-point is great!  You'll want to pick up a few for yourself, and maybe even a gift for your guy as well.

Your Little One will LOL at Elephant and Piggie: We are In a Play! at ZACH

The latest theatre for families production at ZACH Theatre in Austin, TX is the perfect date night idea with your young children.  The synopsis for ZACH's latest show, Elephant and Piggie: We are In a Play! says to bring your "bestus" friend, so I brought my youngest for a night out at the theatre, just the two of us.  We had the best time, and my little guy was laughing constantly.  The play runs through April 30th.   Click here to get your tickets, and take your little "bestus" for a fun night out!

Just the two of us!

We have chosen ZACH Theatre in Austin for family date night outings a lot over the last few years.  The theatre for families shows are geared towards young kids (pre-school and younger elementary age), are shorter (for those fidgety littles), and are brightly costumed and very engaging.  Elephant and Piggie was no exception.  Based on the popular Mo Willems book series, the play was full of energy, and interactive for the audience.

I love, love, love the Academy Awards, and movie award season is one of my favorite times of year.  I don't have a lot of time to go to movies throughout the year, but during award season, we seem to scramble feverishly to see as many of the nominated movies as we can.  It's always a good time!

I also love hosting Oscar-watching parties!  In fact, my very first "big girl" party (décor, specialty food and cocktails, etc.) when living on my own in college was an Oscar party.  I'll never forget it - it was the year Chicago won Best Picture, and it became the first in a many-year tradition of hosting an Oscar party.

Today I am sharing some details that will hopefully inspire you to have your own fabulous Academy Awards shindig!

So, before I get into the details for snacks and décor, I have to share the most important activity for an Oscar party: picking the winners!  I always print up ballots, and each guest has to complete one.  You can do this just for fun, or you can raise the stakes by having the guests put money into a pool, and the one with the most correct picks gets to take home the pot!  This year I am using this printable Oscar ballot from SkinnyPop (it goes along with my popcorn and movie theme).

Three Valentine's Day Menus - Romantic Meals You Can Make at Home

The hubs and I have a tradition of making dinner at home for Valentine's Day.  There are lots of benefits to doing it this way.  First, you beat the waits and crowds at local restaurants.  Second, you save a lot of money by preparing your meal at home (which frees up money for things like our next vacation).  Third, cooking and food are very romantic, and being in the comfort of your own home adds to this.

But Valentine's Day isn't just another weeknight home-cooked dinner for us.  We always step it up a notch by making more of a gourmet meal, with more courses than we'd make on an average night.  Even then, we still save a ton of money compared to the more expensive prix fixe meals many restaurants serve on V-Day.

Today I am sharing three of our favorite dinner menus that we have made at home for Valentine's Day in recent years.  I hope these inspire your own at-home romantic meal this year!

Recipe: How to Make Puerto Rican Sofrito

Sofrito is a base for many Puerto Rican recipes.  You can think of it as the Spanish version of mirepoix.  While you can find jarred, pre-made versions (affiliate link), there's nothing quite like homemade sofrito for your Puerto Rican cooking.  This is why I always have a few portions of homemade sofrito in my freezer, ready to use the next time I whip up some arroz con gandules or habichuelas.

I plan to share a few of my family's Puerto Rican food recipes on the blog this year, and since sofrito is the base for so many of our family's recipes, I thought this would be the best recipe to share first.  This is my dad's recipe, so if you make it and love it, just remember that mi papi deserves all the credit!

Travel Tuesday: Thailand Street Food

Travel and food are pretty much synonymous to me.  A significant way that I experience a culture is through its food.  I especially love street food!  Not only is it a cost-effective way to try a lot of the local fare, but it is often some of the tastiest food I eat during a trip abroad!

A Bangkok street food vendor making up a bowl of heaven in Thong Lo

I have to say that Thailand has the best street food that I have had so far.  It also happens to be some of the cheapest I have had, which means that I had a lot of amazing meals in Thailand without spending a lot of money.  Today I will share some of this #foodporn with you, along with some recommendations on what to try when you visit Thailand.  For more recommendations for a trip to Thailand, check out this post here of our honeymoon in Thailand.

I made a huge batch of chicken stock last weekend to stock up my supply (no pun intended), and was inspired to share some tips on how I freeze and store my homemade stock.

I love having fresh chicken stock available for cooking.  I feel like I go through a lot of chicken stock on an ongoing basis, so it's convenient when I have a weekend day available to make a giant batch to freeze in portions to use later as needed.  FYI, homemade stock is very easy to make, and the simple ingredients also make the endeavor cost effective.

Instagram vs. Reality: Super Mom is not who you think she is

I'm one of those people who's social media profile is filled with the "highlight reel" of my life.  You know, the house with the white furniture, the kids always smiling like angels, and seemingly perpetually traveling somewhere exotic, or eating somewhere fancy.  My pictures are always filtered, and it might seem like my hair is never out of place.

The fact that my social profile looks this way is fine with me... I feel strongly that people have a right to post what they want on their own profiles, as it is their space.  And being the definition of an optimist, I prefer to post positive, happy, pretty things in my space.  But that's just me, and I don't expect others to be the same way in their space.

Though recently, a few things happened that struck me.  The first was at a neighborhood holiday party, where (after a few glasses of wine) a neighbor gal that I was having fun with confessed that she was intimidated by me.  She follows Fab Everyday and is friends with me on social media.  My posts and lifestyle inspiration blog content gave her an impression of me that made her feel intimidated!  It saddened me, because to me, that is the opposite of what Fab Everyday is about (but more on that later).

Recipe: Mexican Hash - Developed for Hunt's and Allrecipes.com

As you may recall, I recently became an Allrecipes.com ambassador (the ambassadors are referred to as Allrecipes Allstars).  One of the great parts of being an Allstar is the opportunity to partner with brands to develop new recipes using their products.  Well folks, my first original recipe developed as an Allrecipes Allstar was "kitchen approved" and published on the Allrecipes.com site!

This was a partnership with Hunt's to develop a breakfast recipe using canned diced tomatoes.  Since the hubs hates eggs (not allergic, just doesn't like the flavor or texture), I took this as a challenge to make a hearty, protein-packed eggless breakfast.  The recipe I developed is Mexican Hash, a chorizo, potato, and tomato (of course) breakfast skillet dish.

I am very excited to announce that I am a ShopStyle Collective partner!  What this means for you is that I can now provide you with easy ways to shop my looks from Instagram @fabeverydayblog by visiting my new Shop page here!

Disclosure: Fab Everyday's Shop page contains affiliate links, which means I receive commission if you click the products and/or make purchases using the links.  This does not cost you anything additional, and helps me to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!

I have archived over two years of looks in the Fab Everyday Instagram shop, so have fun browsing all the classic, seasonal, event, and travel looks!  See something I have worn that is now sold out or unavailable?  Email me at ramonaruby@fabeveryday.com, and I will be happy to help you find a similar style to suit your needs!  Consider me your fabulousness consultant.  I am happy to help style a look for you for any occasion, trip, or wardrobe update!

Happy shopping!
