Fabulous Things to Do in London with Kids

Last year, my husband and I spent a romantic long weekend in London.  This year, we decided to head back to the U.K., but this time with the kids for a family vacation.  I shared about our Kia Optima Sportswagon and our journey to seek some family and personal history in the U.K. last week.  Over the coming weeks I will be detailing out lots of recommendations from our trip, but today we are focused on London!

Since the hubs and I got to experience more of an adult side of London, we wanted to focus our time there this year on things that the kids would especially enjoy.  We came up with a fun list of activities that we all ended up enjoying!

Why it's fabulous: This classy establishment has a traditional afternoon tea with a special kid's version (at a discounted rate).  The teas, champagne, and food were all delicious, and it gave the children an opportunity to experience the tradition.
Why it's great for kids: Not only is the kid's tea discounted, but it is very kid-friendly.  The food for the children's tea is very dessert-heavy, and the kids even get to leave with a small stuffed animal!

Business-class network security for your family and smart home with CUJO Smart Firewall

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free

If your house is anything like mine, you have a lot of devices connected to your home network.  We don't even have a completely smart home, but between our laptops, mobile devices, tablets, gaming system, smart TV, and Google Home (just to name a few), there are a lot of paths into and out of our network.  Not all these devices carry the same level of security protection as you can control on a laptop, for example, which leaves your network, other devices, and family members at a substantial risk of an information security breech.  With our homes and families as connected at home as they are today, your home network demands the same level of protection that we as consumers expect of businesses.  This protection is now available with the CUJO Smart Firewall from Best Buy.

CUJO is a smart firewall that protects your home network (and the attached devices) with the same level of security that is standard for businesses.  It connects to your home Wi-Fi router and scans and protects from things like viruses, hacks, and malicious websites.  It also has an integrated app that allows you to manage devices on your network, alerts you to new devices connected and threats, and even allows you to manage parental controls for online access on your children's devices!  For the techies out there, it is good to point out that it includes a 1GB Ethernet for speed!

Connecting with my family and personal history in the U.K. with Kia

Disclosure: Kia Motors UK provided me with a vehicle for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

Last month, our family spent two weeks driving through the U.K. (England, Wales, and Scotland) in a trusty-but-luxurious Kia Optima Sportswagon. In the coming weeks I will share detailed reviews and recommendations of the sites and destinations we experienced, as well as a full itinerary and route for our road trip.

Today, I want to share about the parts of our trip that inspired it in the first place: a journey that would connect my family with our past, to discover and experience more of our personal histories. My husband to connect with his ancestral heritage in Scotland, mine to reconnect with my country of birth in England, and my sons to have their first physical connection to all of it. This was only possible through a road trip and time spent to explore and discover. That gift was made possible in part to Kia Motors UK, who, after spending time learning about the new Kia makes and models in the USA, offered me use of the Optima Sportswagon for our epic two-week adventure.

Three-Ingredient Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Vegan Fudge Bites Recipe

Disclosure: I received a sample of Nocciolata Dairy Free for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

You know I am all about easy at Fab Everyday.  So when I found a recipe that's delicious, low on the guilt-factor, and also the easiest fudge I have ever made, I knew it was a keeper.

For the fudge recipe, I received a sample of Nocciolata Dairy Free (affiliate link) – an organic chocolate hazelnut spread made from all natural ingredients.  Completely free of GMO's, preservatives, colors, additives, or artificial sweeteners, Rigoni di Asiago's Nocciolata Dairy Free combines hazelnuts, fair trade cocoa and cocoa butter, natural vanilla extract, and raw cane sugar for a chocolate-hazelnut spread with undeniably superior flavor.  It's also made with environmentally-responsible cold-pressed sunflower oil, and contains far less sugar than other brands and is free from hydrogenated fats.

Bringing in Fall Fashion with Smart-yet-Casual American Sportswear Brand GANT

Disclosure: I received a sample from GANT for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

The weather is finally cooling here in central Texas, which to some means football and pumpkin spice everything.  To me it means transitioning to fall fashion (oh, and also pumpkin spice everything)!  Today I am featuring one of fall's fashion trends: relaxed tailored.  You know, the smart-yet-casual looks where you can pair a button-up shirt with jeans (or even activewear), or play the traditional tailored pieces with just a bit of avant-garde (think blouses, pants, and skirts with asymmetry or deconstruction).  GANT, the American sportswear brand with a long heritage of playing the smart-yet-casual looks, has just the pieces you need for this fall trend, for either men or women.

GANT approached me to work with them, and I loved how their styles embody the fall relaxed tailored trend, and go seamlessly from the office to the weekend.  I chose the GANT Rugger Knotted Shirt (which comes in white or dark blue) to try out for today's post.  This particular shirt also happens to be on major sale right now!

Tips for a Smooth New School Transition (with Poketti Plushies)

Disclosure: I received samples of Poketti for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

Going into fall and the back-to-school routine is always a bit of a transition.  This year was more challenging than normal for our family, as my youngest was leaving the preschool he attended since he was an infant to start kindergarten, and both my boys are attending a brand new school, leaving some friends, teachers, and familiarity behind.  So far the transition has been successful, and I want to share some of the tips that are getting us through it today.

One of the tips you'll read about more below involves Poketti, adorable plushies (or "cuddle buddies" as my boys call them) with pockets and "pocket powers."  This company is actually run by young girl entrepreneurs (they started the company when they were in middle school; click here for more on the company's history) who wanted to combine the comfort of a plush toy with function by adding pockets.  Their latest line pairs the cute plushies with "pocket powers" that empower children with traits like confidence, creativity, kindness, and a lot more.  You can shop for Poketti on Amazon here (affiliate link), but I will share more about them along with some tips for a smooth new school transition below.

Creamy Bacon Avocado Pasta Salad Recipe + Enter the Howdy Skinner Sweepstakes!

I was financially compensated for this post.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

Labor Day is coming up.  To me, it represents the last hurrah of the summer.  It represents Texas-style cookouts, friendship, and the beginning of fall weather.  I have so many great memories of times with friends when we all pot luck our favorite dishes and have some laughs alongside the grill.  Three-day weekends are so good for that!  Such a care-free feeling!  I have just the pasta dish for you to take to your next cookout, and it couldn't be easier to make.

The idea of "cookouts" have become something wholly different for me since we moved to Texas six years ago.  They are an essentially Texan experience (don't ever confuse a "cookout" with a "BBQ" like many of my Californian peers).  Someone is always in charge of the grill, local brew is always on the menu, and every guest has a signature dish that we all look forward to.  These experiences are one of the things that I think Texas does better than other states.  Another thing Texas does better?  Groceries and grocery prices!  I remember being blown away my first several shopping trips at both the prices and the quality of the local brands.  One of the local brands I fell immediately in love with is Skinner® pasta.  You just can't beat the price when combined with the quality.  As quintessentially Texas as a cookout, everyone - family, friends, kids - loves Skinner.

In honor of Friendship Month, Skinner pasta is celebrating how it brings Texan friends and family together with a sweepstakes!  Enter the #HowdySkinnerSweepstakes by Wednesday, September 6th for a chance to win great prizes, like a getaway for two to the Houston Marriott Marquis, a Care.com membership (plus $500 to cover household, babysitting or pet care services), and a year’s supply of Skinner pasta for you and a friend!  Even the prizes are friendly!

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of OshKosh B’gosh; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I don't know about you, but my boys have a favorite type of pant.  A pant that they'd ask to wear daily if they could.  They actually have a name for them (they ask for their "comfy pants").  Thankfully, because these pants are available in lots of different colors, and are pretty cute, they can work with a lot of different looks.  Today, I am going to show you how versatile these French Terry Pants from OshKosh B'gosh are, with some styling tips and a look at how they have taken us from the end of summer all the way through back to school.  It's not always easy to find kids fashion that is versatile, comfortable, and stylish, but OshKosh has my boys totally covered for back to school this year, from head to toe!  I am also sharing a special discount code and giveaway... so read on!

Casual play wear or nicer school wear, Osh Kosh B'gosh has us covered.

OshKosh also has a great range of shoes for boys and girls!  This blue-trimmed pair is quickly becoming a favorite.

As if you need another reason to give OshKosh a visit for your back to school shopping, let me tell you about the B'gosh Jeanius campaign.  The campaign as an annual effort to support local communities with donated clothing and school supply needs.  Partnering with DonorsChoose.org and Delivering Good, OshKosh Moms, families and friends have collected over $1.1 million and distributed more than 66,000 articles of clothing to impact the lives of over 260,000 students.  You can join the effort by donating a new pair of jeans in-store or making a cash contribution in-store or online at oshkosh.com/bgoshjeanius through September 18, 2017.  Then, share your “shop to give style” on social media using #BgoshJeanius.

Pairing Wine and Music with Cambria’s Benchbreak Chardonnay and Benchbreak Pinot Noir

This post was sponsored by Cambria Winery as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

My husband and I love wine.  Drinking wine is such a sensory experience.  We especially love wine tasting, as being in the vineyards where the grapes are grown, surrounded by the environment that gives them the intricate taste, adds to the experience and enjoyment of the wine.

Art, much like wine, is often intricate, and when savored and examined, can be enjoyed on a number of sensory levels.  Music is one form of art that is particularly sensory.  I can remember times where I have seen a favorite singer in a music hall with great acoustics where I could feel the music as well as hear it.  Then there are those other times when you are with a group of friends having some laughs, and the song that was playing will bring you back to that moment when you hear it again in the future.  Even alone, listening to amazing instrumental or vocal harmonies with some headphones in the comfort of your room can take you places emotionally and physically.

It is really cool that Cambria Wines has thought to combine these two, and help people experience and enjoy their wines in a new way.  They created the Notes of Cambria four-part video series, which is meant to take you through a unique sensory experience as you enjoy Cambria’s Benchbreak Chardonnay and Cambria’s Benchbreak Pinot Noir wines.  You can see the videos on YouTube here (which are both educational and experiential), then enjoy a bottle of Benchbreak Chardonnay with the Chardonnay Shanty and Benchbreak Pinot Noir with the Pinot Noir Waltz:

High Style on a Low Budget - Pre-Fall Fashion Wish List from SheIn

If you follow @fabeverydayblog on Instagram, then you've probably noticed I've been wearing a lot of clothing from SheIn recently.  I first discovered SheIn last winter when I found an adorable blush pink ruffle bell-sleeve sweater from them at a great price.  After receiving the sweater, I found that the sizing was true, and that the quality was much better than expected.  You never know when shopping online... and when the prices are that good you almost assume it to be hit-or-miss on the fit and quality.  But this is not the case with SheIn!

Fast-forward to now, where I have become a regular SheIn customer on nearly a monthly basis, and have yet to be disappointed in an item I have purchased from them.  In fact, I am wearing about seven pieces from SheIn during the U.K. road trip we are on currently (stay tuned for those pieces in my August What I Wore post coming later this month).

Today, as I am starting to think of my pre-fall wardrobe, I have put together my wish list picks for some great-priced SheIn pieces to transition you into fall.  Click the picture for details on how to shop these items on SheIn.

Nano: Stylish, but Comfortable and Simple Back-to-School Fashion for Boys

Disclosure: I received Nano clothes for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

It's hard to believe, but summer is flying by, and it's already time to start thinking of the kids' back-to-school wardrobe.  If you're a #boymom like me, then you know the struggle with finding stylish clothes for young boys (when there appears to be a never ending selection of cute clothes for girls).  Not to mention that simplicity and comfort are key for clothing for active young kids.  That's where Nano comes in - simple style and lots of comfort.  I can attest that both boys and their parents love Nano and what it has to offer!

But it's not just boys - Nano makes stylish and comfy clothes for girls too!  And from now until 9/15/17, when you shop Nano and use discount code fabeveryday, you'll receive 20% off your entire order!

Check out these adorable outfits (both tops and bottoms) from Nano that my boys are breaking in this week while we're on vacay in London!

Super Easy DIY Hanging Organizer for Your Next Family Road Trip

The #FabFam is off to our next adventure today... a road trip around the U.K.!  Since my kids are already road trip and travel troopers, we have found lots of ways to keep them entertained and happy on long trips (see my tried-and-true tips for surviving road trips with young children in this post here).  Since this trip takes us on a plane before a two-week road trip journey in foreign countries, I had to think and pack differently to organize ourselves.  I was inspired recently when I saw this Simple Road Trip Hack post on Modern Mom Life, and decided to try this project, and make it work for my two young sons.

Today I am sharing how I turned one simple over-the-door shoe rack into two hanging car organizers for kid's road trip activities and snacks.

Cool Summer Treat: Lemon Icebox Pie Recipe (with Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk)

Disclosure: I received Eagle Brand products for review purposes.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

At the Mom 2.0 Summit a few months ago, my eyes were opened to the versatility of sweetened condensed milk.  I mean, I have used it for very specific reasons over the years.  What I never thought about was how this simple ingredient can add so much to a wide variety of food and beverages.  Eagle Brand was one of the exhibitors at Mom 2.0, and I must admit, I found myself passing by their table during each break.  Each time, they had a different food or beverage to sample that used sweetened condensed milk in different, and often surprising ways.  I plan to experiment with a few of these in my own cooking and entertaining, and will be sure to share them with you here and on social media.

This week, with the sweltering summer heat here in Central Texas, I could not be bothered to bake anything.  Nope, if dessert was to be had, it would have to be cool, creamy, and refreshing.  Since the #FabFam loves citrus (key lime pie, sorbet, a nice glass of homemade lemonade, a fresh margarita...), I decided to make a lemon icebox pie that I saw on the Eagle Brand Recipes site.

Granddaddy's Garlic Lovers Clam Dip Recipe

One of my absolute favorite family recipes is my Granddaddy's clam dip.  We had it at most family get-togethers while I was growing up, and he and my Grandma always made sure to make a double batch if they knew I was going to be there (with a special portion just for me to take home).  This rich and creamy clam dip is a garlic lover's dream.  We always joked that no one would notice your garlic breath if everyone was eating the dip.  It must have been unfortunate for the one person at the party who didn't like garlic, because they would have to endure the garlic breath of everyone else!

Caramel Coffee Popsicles Recipe

As you all know through my #DinnerTonight posts on social media and my recipe round-up blog posts, I love to curate and share the best tried-and-true recipes that I find with my readers and followers.  However, this past year I have been experimenting more with original recipe development (like my Mexican Hash recipe, and others that I have shared recently).  And while a lot of the recipes I have been developing have been family-focused, I don’t want to leave the adults out of the fun.  With the heat rising here in Central Texas as we approach summer, kids aren’t the only ones who crave sweet, frozen treats!

Since coffee is life (and since Fab Everyday readers are busy people that may not be able to function without it), lately I have been trying to think of ways to play with coffee differently.  I was recently inspired by this Iced Coffee Popsicle recipe from The Black Peppercorn, and thought, how can I make something fun and summery with coffee that would also provide that much-needed caffeine kick?

There are a lot of coffee and mocha popsicle recipes out there, but I wanted to think of something different.  My love for the flavor of rich espresso coffee and salted caramel converged for the idea of making caramel coffee popsicles.

Comparing Kia's Eco-Dynamic Cars for My Next Vehicle

Disclosure: I was hosted by Kia for a media trip to learn about their line of eco-dynamic vehicles.  The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.  I was not financially compensated for this post.

I was recently invited by Kia Motors, along with some other digital influencers, to attend an experience to get to know the Kia brand and their fleet of eco-dynamic vehicles.  The timing of this trip was pretty ideal as I will be in the market for a new car, myself, later this year.  I have also been considering a more ecologically-conscious choice for my next vehicle, so I was eager to learn more about different options and the latest in eco-dynamic technology for vehicles.  Today, I am going to share my experience with you and this will kick off my journey to finding my next vehicle.

Birthday Party Ideas for Boys

First, I want to say that these birthday part ideas are not just for boys.  I believe that there is no such thing as "a girl thing" or "a boy thing," as all kids can like whatever kinds of toys, themes, movies, etc. that they want.  That being said, in full disclosure, I am titling this post "birthday party ideas for boys" to help people find these ideas if they did a Google or Pinterest search for birthday party theme inspiration for the little boys in their lives.

Here are some of the fun birthday party themes I have done for my two sons over the years.  I hope you find some inspiration!

Creative Hot Dog Bar Toppings and Combos for your next Cookout

Three-day weekends plus spring / summer weather mean lots of time spent outdoors for cookouts, pool parties, and barbecues!  My brother-in-law wanted to have a fun cookout for his birthday, and as I'm always looking for ways to bring a bit more fabulousness to the everyday, I found myself trying to think of ways to spice up traditional cookout fare.  I decided to do a hot dog bar, where we could grill up a bunch of dogs and provide topping combination options for guests to build their dogs their way.

Many of the hot dog toppings I settled on for the hot dog bar were from this 13 Creative Hot Dog Recipes slideshow from Real Simple, but I found a few others as well.  Read on to see all the recipes I used!

Celebrating #FabForAll with a JustFab Convertible Swimsuit

Let's get real for a second.  I haven't prioritized my health and fitness the way I usually do.  Some stress at the end of last year, on top of the usual craziness of life, caused me to put self-care on the back-burner.  The result has been a slow and steady 10 pound gain.  Even though I have been spying lots of cute swimwear for summer 2017, I haven't been feeling as good about my body, and have been hesitant to buy any (let alone blog about them).  I am not as toned as I was when I modeled this swimwear two years ago, and was afraid to let the world see my imperfections.

Then recently I saw this gorgeous convertible multi-way one-piece swimsuit from JustFab, and I had to have it.  The color was so pretty, the style was so fun, and I was just dying to get it.  I was quickly reminded about JustFab's #FabForAll campaign, which "celebrates love in all forms—loving your style, your life, and most importantly, yourself."  You know what?  I do love my style, and I do love my life.  I realized that I can also make the choice to love myself.  With this in mind, I decided to hold my head high, step away from the fear of exposing my flaws, and instead celebrate how fabulous this sexy suit makes me feel.  I may lose 5 or 10 pounds again someday, but I am OK with the fact that I will never have a thigh gap (I have accepted this as my genetics).  I am OK with the fact that I have stretch marks (this body has birthed two beautiful boys and has carried me all over the world).  These facts about my body should not prevent me from feeling fab, wearing an adorable swimsuit, or enjoying some time at the pool or beach.  Fabulous is not just about how something looks... it's a state of mind.  When you feel fabulous, you are fabulous.

Minecraft-Themed 5th Birthday Party (with Printables!)

Disclosure: This post contains some affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links and make a purchase, I may receive a commission.  This does not cost you anything additional, and helps me to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!

Both of my boys have been Minecraft nuts since the first one of them got their first "big kid tablet" and could start playing Pocket Edition.  Then after Santa brought them a PS4 last Christmas along with the full version of the game, their love for Minecraft went next-level.  Between the time they spend in Creative or Survival, playing Story Mode, and watching their favorite YouTubers play (DanTDM, StampyCat, and Pat and Jen have practically become part of the family), this game has become a big part of the boys' lives.  Fortunately, it's a very creative and kid-friendly game, so we don't mind.  In fact, we love seeing the creative structures the boys construct, and watching them learn teamwork when they play in Survival together.

I figured it was just a matter of time before one of them requested a Minecraft party.  Though my seven year-old has been playing longer, it was my youngest that requested a Minecraft birthday party first.  Here are the details from his Minecraft-themed 5th birthday party from a few weeks ago.

Travel Tuesday: Route and Recommendations for a Road Trip Through the U.S. Southwest

For spring break this year, the Fab Fam took a camping road trip across the Southwest (from Austin to Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas, Page, Arizona for Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and Zion and Arches National Parks in Utah).  You can click the links above for specific details on each destination, but today I am sharing our overall road trip route, itinerary, and recommendations for the whole trip.

Overall we covered five states, about 3,000 miles, and 48 hours of drive time over the course of nine days.  I am pleased to say that, once again, the whole family did great.  If you want to see my tried-and-true tips for surviving a long road trip with young children, click here.  We especially love breaking up the trip with unique roadside attractions, like the world's largest chile pepper, Billy the Kid's grave, and the like.  Most of these I found on Roadside America, which I highly recommend checking out before any road trip.

DIY Kid's Camping and Outdoor Safety Necklace Craft

Our family camps and hikes on a regular basis, both for personal trips, and with our Camp Fire clubs.  Since it is important to teach kids some basic outdoor safety and survival skills, our Camp Fire club just had a lesson on this topic.  Part of the lesson was a craft to create their own outdoor safety necklace.

If you do this craft with your kids, I recommend also watching this YouTube video, which has some great, simple survival skills for children

Nature and outdoors are important in our family.  We get so much out of it, both mentally and physically.  This Nature Hunt kid's activity combines the fun of the outdoors with educational concepts of math ad geometry.  With our youngest starting kindergarten this year, this kind of prep is key.

Family Trip to Arches National Park

For spring break this year, the Fab Fam took a camping road trip across the Southwest (from Austin to Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas, Page, Arizona for Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, and Zion and Arches National Parks in Utah).  I'll share our overall road trip route, itinerary, and recommendations in a few weeks, but leading up to that I am highlighting each of our destinations in detail.  Today's post covers our visit to Arches National Park in southern Utah.

Since I knew that Arches was a big park, I knew that we would need to maximize our time there.  The solution was to do some research in advance to plan our strategy.  The best resources were cross-comparing the park map (click here for a PDF) with this great article on kid-friendly hikes in Arches.  The article shares which hikes the kids could likely handle (distance, incline, etc.) as well as the hikes and spots in the park in which young children would have the most fun.  This helped us plan our attack and prioritize the two half-days we had there.

How to Style 2017's Spring/Summer Dresses

Disclosure: I received some of the products in this post for review purposes.  The opinions are my own.

Spring is in the air!  To me, that means it's time to start breaking out the dresses!  I love that dresses can be worn for seemingly every occasion, whether it's for work, vacation, brunch, shopping, a wedding, you name it!  Today I am showing you how to style a few of this spring and summer's hottest dress trends for different occasions.  Be sure to check out Tobi.com for tons of reasonably-priced, but of-the-moment dresses for spring and summer!

Look 1: Your Casual, Everyday Dress.
As I shared in my spring fashion must-haves post, off-the-shoulder and bell-sleeves are uber hot for spring and summer this year.  This Tobi Peace of Mind Striped Off Shoulder Shift Dress is the perfect combo of both those things, in a breezy silhouette and nautical stripes.  This is great for a spring break trip or a day of shopping.  I paired it with one of the hottest shoe styles of the season, a block-heel mule.  These mules are JustFab's Bijou in Cognac.  If you're not a member of JustFab yet, click here to join to get the VIP pricing on these shoes (disclosure: this is an affiliate link, which means I receive commission from JustFab if you sign-up using the link)!  The icing on the cake are my current favorite sunnies, Karen Walker 'Simone' Retro Sunglasses (affiliate link).
