I was recently inspired to update my Christmas mantel décor this year (see all the details in this post). I really loved the look of this white Snowball Wreath from CB2. Unfortunately, I did not love the price tag. However, in looking at it, I figured this was something I could try to make myself to save some money on the designer look I wanted! I had experience making the Martha Stewart tissue paper pom poms and flowers before (see how I used them for these easy DIY napkin rings), and I thought that I could make the same effect for this DIY pom pom wreath using the same type of tissue paper flowers. Here’s how I made a DIY paper flower wreath. Pin this if you’re looking for instructions on how to make a tissue paper wreath.
How to make a DIY pom pom wreath
Supplies Needed:
- Foam or wooden wreath ring
- Tissue paper
- 24-gauge floral wire
- Scissors
Instructions:
To make this DIY paper flower wreath cut or fold the sheets of tissue paper into eighths (each sheet creating eight approximately 10″x5″ rectangular sheets). Layer 8 of these sheets together for each flower (each piece of tissue paper will create one flower).
Fold the 8 sheets of tissue paper together in an accordion fold like a fan longways. Wrap a piece of wire around the center and twist it to secure.
Trim the ends of the tissue (more rounded for a fluffier mum-style look, or pointier for a dahlia-like look).
Carefully separate and fluff each sheet of tissue paper, pulling away from the center one sheet at a time, to create individual flowers for the tissue paper flower wreath.
For the frame of this DIY pom pom wreath, I purchased an 18″ wooden wreath form at a craft store (but you can use whatever size you like). Foam wreath rings or floral rings would work as well. Using the wire from the flowers, I attached the flowers to the wreath form at a two-flower width (wrapping the wire around the wreath ring and twisting the ends to secure). I used approximately 32 flowers to cover the wooden 18″ wreath form.
I am really happy with how this DIY paper flower wreath turned out! You can see the DIY pom pom wreath styled with the rest of my chic holiday mantel décor in this post.
