We love making home popped popcorn using our air popcorn popper (we just have a simple one, similar to this one on Amazon here). Not only does this save us a lot of money (a bag of generic popcorn kernels is under $2 at our grocery store, and makes batch after batch of popcorn), but it also makes a great, low-calorie snack. According to LiveStrong, air-popped popcorn varieties are “low energy density foods — they have fewer calories by weight than high energy density foods — so you can eat a larger quantity of these than high energy density foods. Snacking on air-popped popcorn can help fill you up while helping you limit your overall calorie intake.” I don’t know about you, but I like the sound of that!
In the grocery store one day I noticed that next to my bag of popcorn kernels was a rack of several little popcorn seasonings, all reasonable in price. With flavors like Ranch and Bacon Cheddar, it caught my attention and I had to try them. I probably got six to eight of them, as I was eager to try them all. They are good… like, crazy good. My family (husband and kids alike) are now popcorn addicts, making popcorn every few days to munch on. It doesn’t get old when you have a variety of flavor options to mix it up. They even sell mini size variety packs (get them on Amazon here) so you can test out several of their popular flavors.
My favorite Kernel Season’s flavors: Nacho Cheddar, Kettle Corn, Garlic Parmesan, and Bacon Cheddar (which is also our kids’ favorite)

Parmesan, Garlic, and Truffle Popcorn recipe
Ingredients:
- Popcorn kernels (white or yellow)
- Kernel Season’s Movie Theater Butter Popping Oil
- Kernel Season’s Garlic Parmesan Seasoning
- Truffle salt
- Parmesan cheese
- Parsley flakes (optional)
Directions:
- Pop the desired amount of popcorn in your air popper.
- Coat the popped popcorn in a light amount of Kernel Season’s Movie Theater Butter Popping Oil (this helps the seasoning to stick).
- Mix in seasonings (Kernel Season’s Garlic Parmesan Seasoning, truffle salt, Parmesan cheese) to taste. I recommend going heavy on the Garlic Parmesan Seasoning, and lighter on the salt, as truffle salt goes a long way.
- Top with a sprinkle of parsley flakes if desired, and enjoy.
The finished product! Yum!
Cheddar Cheese and Cracked Pepper Popcorn recipe
Ingredients:
- Popcorn kernels (white or yellow)
- Kernel Season’s Movie Theater Butter Popping Oil
- Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Seasoning
- Fresh cracked black pepper
- Salt (optional)
Directions:
- Pop the desired amount of popcorn in your air popper.
- Coat the popped popcorn in a light amount of Kernel Season’s Movie Theater Butter Popping Oil (this helps the seasoning to stick).
- Mix in the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Seasoning, cracked black pepper and salt (optional) to taste. I suggest going generous on the Nacho Cheddar Seasoning and black pepper (especially if you like a spicy kick).
- Serve and enjoy.
Here’s how it turns out. Delish!
