2009 Oscar Fashion - My Picks for Best and Worst

Those of you that know me know how much I absolutely adore the Oscars. Every year I try and see as many of the nominated films as I can, and I have hosted a "dress up" Oscar party for 7 years in a row.

Now that I have a forum in which to do this, I thought it'd be fun to share my picks for Best and Worst dressed on last night's red carpet. Here goes!

Best Dressed:

Anne Hathaway
Glamour goddess! The color was gorgeous on her porcelein skin, and the scaling on the skirt is to die!

Penelope Cruz
She looked like a princess. Very well put together, and the dress, though intricate in detail was still very tasteful.

Taraji P. Henson
This is like a gorgeous wedding dress. I love the soft chiffon tiers.

Marisa Tomei
My favorite of the night was this ornately pleated gown on Marisa. I just absolutely loved everything about this dress, especially the assymetry.

Worst Dressed:

Tilda Swinton
OK, I know Tilda tries to go against the grain, but this is just bad. She has a figure and can be very glamorous, so why does she do this?

Heidi Klum
While I usually like it when people push it s little and try something different, this just wasn't right for the Oscar red carpet IMO.

Freida Pinto
I have seen Freida on the Best Dressed list in a few articles today, but I beg to differ. For what may be her biggest moment in the sun (ever), she should have really brought it (a la Marion Cotillard last year). This is a cross between that sad Laura Dern Golden Globes dress, a sorry sari, and something Scarlett O'Hara would have worn under one of her hoop dresses at the Twelve Oaks BBQ.

Melissa Leo
While this is a huge transformation from how she looked in "Frozen River," something just isn't right here. I think the gathering and the dropped waist are actually working against her, and not for her. And the hair? Hello Dolly.

Reese Witherspoon
She just didn't look good. The dress totally did not do it for me, and her smoky eye makeup made her look strung out, not "Oscar winner."

Virginia Madsen
This one's not that bad, but worth mentioning. She must be looking for her husband, George Jetaon, while this was being taken.

Kate Winslet
I don't hate it, but probably just because I love Kate so much. I just wanted something more, because she looked twice as good at both the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes this year.

Honorable Mention:

I bring this up, because even though this is on most of the Worst Dressed lists, I actually like it.

Amy Adams
Another one that has been listed on a lot of the Worst Dressed lists, I still want to give Amy (or her stylists) the credit for this unusual dress and necklace combo that works for me. Don't know if red if right for her though.

Evan Rachel Wood
She would totally have made my Best Dressed if it weren't for the tacky upper back tattoo. She is going for total glamour here (with hair and all), but when she turns around the tattoo ruins it for me.

Angelina Jolie's Jewelry
The earrings and giant green ring were just breathtaking. There was some great jewelry on the red carpet last night, but this was just stunning.

Puttin' the flat iron aside...

Yay! According to, curls are in for spring! I guess that means I get to take a break from the 1.5 hour process of flat ironing out my waves.
